As a teenager he shook Elvis’s hand backstage in Las Vegas. In 1990, Earl Poole Ball turned him around at Knott’s Berry Farm — Johnny Cash and June Carter had just rolled up in a golf cart. “I think my knees buckled. He looked about twelve feet tall.”

Those meetings are the spine of the night. Act I is the Man in Black — Folsom, Ring of Fire, Ghost Riders, the Sun Records lore. Act II is the King, and “Would He Believe,” written in 2002 after the 25th anniversary Candlelight Vigil, when he returned to his room.

Not an impersonator show. History, played loud. Spreckels Performing Arts Center in 2017 and October 2019 — Cash & King premiered there in 2017. Raven: October 2017 and August 2022. This concert record is the document of that night.
